Every year on March 17, many of us ‘celebrate’ Saint Patrick’s Day with a green beer (or two), by wearing green clothing, or by going to one of the thousands of namesake parades hosted by cities and towns around the world. The 17th of March is believed to be the day Saint Patrick died, over 1500 years ago. A Christian missionary, he is the primary patron saint of Ireland.
Saint Patrick’s day is also symbolized by shamrocks, leprechauns, and good ol’ fashioned Irish luck.
This week, take steps to improve upon your own Irish luck. I believe in creating your own luck. That is, putting yourself in a position where good things will tend to happen to you. Don’t just Hope to be Lucky; be Prepared to be Lucky.
For many years, the home page of our True Freedom Achievers website, has said: “PUT YOURSELF IN POSITION TO SUCCEED”.
It’s a quote that I coined and use fairly often, as I’m not a big believer in blind luck. I don’t think I’m lucky because I have a nice custom home by the mountain in a great neighborhood. Or because I have been able to be at my kids’ school to watch their class plays, sporting events, and other activities when most of the other Dads are working at their J-O-Bs. Don’t get me wrong – I am very Thankful for those things – but they didn’t happen due to dumb luck.
If you want something badly, put your positive attention towards it, and then put your preparatory efforts towards it as well. Be ready, mentally and physically, to identify and take advantage of the opportunities when they present themselves to you. Surround yourself with other ‘lucky’ people who have attracted their own success. Position yourself to succeed, through thinking and doing the right things, and your likelihood of succeeding goes up tremendously!
Here is a link to an article that I wrote some years ago, but it still illustrates beautifully how we can create our own luck in real estate and life: Luck is what happens when Preparation meets Opportunity.
Summary:
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you. Enjoy the fun that we typically associate with this day. But then take a step or two this week towards positioning yourself to achieve what you really want – whether it be freedom of time, financial freedom, or anything else that is important to you. Put yourself in a position to succeed, through preparation. Identify and be ready to act when (not if) an opportunity comes by. Then be thankful for the journey and the success you have just created.
